FAQ
The most common questions, answered briefly. The regulations are binding.
Applying
How do I apply?
Download the application form, consent form and regulations for your competition, record your video and pay the fee. Then send everything in one email to golden_
Is there an online form?
No. You apply by email and attach the signed application form as a PDF.
How will I know my application has arrived?
You receive a confirmation by email once your documents are complete. For the young musicians’ competition, the organising committee confirms receipt within five working days.
How old can my video recording be?
For the opera competition, no more than six months; older recordings are not accepted. For young musicians: one unedited take with the performer and instrument visible throughout. See the recording guide for tips.
When is the deadline exactly?
Young musicians until 15 November 2026 inclusive, Festival & Summer Academy until 15 November 2026. The video pre-selection for the 2027 opera competition has closed. Late or incomplete applications are not considered.
Fees and withdrawal
Do I get the fee back if I am not selected?
No. The fee covers organisation and assessment and, under the regulations, is not refunded unless the organiser cancels the competition. For the opera competition, you only pay the live-round fee after passing the pre-selection. As a consumer, however, you can withdraw within 14 days of registering; see Withdrawal & cancellation.
How do I pay?
By bank transfer in euros to the account of Beethoven Conservatory of Vienna GmbH; for transfers in dram there is an account in Armenia. Put your full name and discipline in the payment reference and send the proof of payment with your application. The bank details are on the Apply page.
Are taxes added to the fees?
No. All amounts shown are final prices in euros.
Minors
Who signs for minors?
A parent or legal guardian signs the application form and the consent form; both are required for participants under 18.
Who looks after my child in Vienna?
The regulations do not cover supervision. Before travelling, agree with the organising committee who will accompany your child during the rounds. Families arrange travel, accommodation and insurance themselves. Our principles are set out under Child protection.
Will photos of my child be published?
The competition is photographed and filmed. What may be published is governed by the consent form you sign. You can withdraw that consent for the future at any time; an email to golden_
Travel and visas
I need a visa. Who can help?
If you pass the video round, you receive an official invitation to the rounds in Vienna. You arrange your passport, visa and health insurance yourself, so apply for the visa early.
Do I need to bring a pianist?
No. For the opera competition the organiser provides an accompanist at no extra cost; bring your piano scores. You may bring your own accompanist at your own expense.
Are travel and accommodation covered?
Not for the competitions: participants cover travel, accommodation, insurance and visa. For the Festival & Summer Academy, accommodation and meals are included in the fee.
Recordings and jury
May the organiser record my performance?
Yes. By taking part you agree to audio, photo and video recordings and their publication without a fee. The details are in the regulations and the consent form; you can withdraw consent for the future.
Do jury members assess their own students?
No. Jury members with a professional or personal relationship to a candidate do not vote on that candidate. The jury’s decisions are final.
Festival
Who can take part in the festival?
Instrumentalists and singers aged 7 to 35. Places are limited and admission is by artistic selection.
How do I register for the festival?
